Crash course in video game journalism

I have long observed that the "beer" and "butt" traded up in Meristation. A game can be good, but there is always room for improvement. A buxom in the promo, a few pixels big to hide and ready, and we have the image click secure. Too tempting for the unwary gamer beardless ignore it ...

A great lesson for programmers

Sometimes one finds it can not completely and totally customize the controls of a game because the programmer does not come out of the ... well, he has not seen fit. Explanations tend to form certified as diverse as we want not explained configure the controls in a way that does not fit your square head of zeros and ones or do not want to configure the keys suppose an advantage for some ...

Well, here's the big lesson. A boy in a forum complained bitterly because he had bought Dead Space 2 and could not set the action of walking in the mouse and claimed that he left the game unusable. The programmer, as a programmer that is, understood nothing, but it turns out the poor kid has no arms and plays with her chin ... ( Read the full story here, in English )

Awesome lesson. Gentlemen, think of all the world and allow controls to be completely and totally customizable once and for all.

PS: Sorry if I hurt sensibilities, there are programmers nice people, not many, if any, Hayles ... :)

Mini Black Ops analysis: Good, but not enough

In a visit to London I have brought under his arm a Call of Duty: Black Ops surprised by the good sales of the game despite his parents, Infinity Ward, have abandoned the project altogether. It appeared that Treyarch, who had already made some Call of Duty of lower quality than those of Infinity Ward, had taken over the project and had given birth to a larger budget Call of Duty top. The truth, unfortunately, is another.

The single player mode has gotten what he wanted, to be more spectacular than Modern Warfare 2, but lacks a script more interesting, more exciting, epic moments, credibility and timing. The story does not come up to the bitumen to Modern Warfare 2. I certainly and I smelled the toast in the final minute and confirmed what I smelled. Well, that is varied, there are good salads shots, but although technically very great height bay, would not put it ahead of Modern Warfare 2, which currently remains the best.

The way to kill zombies is unlocked at the end is funny, but not much I was hooked.

Multiplayer is another story, the developments are pretty good, as the contract system, the option to perform jumps and push us into the ground while shooting and the new maps, which I found quite bright. New weapons are also a good incentive to snag a great time, sorry that my connection to Xbox Live Gold finish expire ... but almost better, because otherwise I'll burn the console-based Black Ops and FIFA 11 ...

Treyarch has done better work than I expected, but still I say the result is not more than MW2. Seems to have taken advantage of work done by Infinity Ward to get even better results. Competition, with the new Medal of Honor, among others, the head still wear it too hard ...

This is not the typical review of Red Dead Redemption (by the boss)

Hello friends! Long time since I updated my dear blog, but the blessed day intensive that will change this. I just finished Red Dead Redemptio PS3 and I can give you my impressions, as always, 100% original and far removed from the analysis truños you can read there.

After finishing the single player game (the multiplayer yet I have not touched), I have been an excellent taste. Again the hand of Dan Houser permeates the entire script of the game. They talk of some kind of developer "pints" Japanese as the "Tarantino" of video games, but for me Houser is this guy who deserves the appellation. Dan has over 10 years writing the scripts for the GTA series and now has embarked on a Red Dead Redemption stands out above all by the script that has led Houser.

I'm not going to "spoil", but the story of John Marston really hooked. It is full of good dialogue in a way that rarely feel the need to ahorrártelos. The script is full of bandits, corrupt law enforcement, threats, tough guys, whores, racing, pounding, ... there's frauds, and under good grounds of social criticism and comments very ironic and odd acids and intellectual touch : as when subtly makes you wonder if you really can escape his past or when you move to reflect on policy with regard to a dictator and the revolutionary course that will return power to overthrow the people. All very disappointing, very Houser ... I love it! Indeed, as the script for RDD curiosity is ten times that of a movie ...

The end of history had been recommended to me by some friends and, indeed, I am delighted by unexpected, for being the West, for his epic. The duration of the game is quite large because between main missions will always find some fun secondary task to perform, so that ultimately the game offers you many hours of game that you expect. It is true that some side missions are repeated but, man, nobody forces you to do it if you seem boring.

The new scenario, the American West, 1911, gives a touch of freshness to the Grand Theft Auto has been lost over time. The horse is more fun than vehicles, such as hunting fugitives living or dead or beasts, tame horses, buy land ... I'm a big fan of GTA, but I must confess that Red Dead Redemption I liked it better than GTA IV.

The project has been 6 years of hard work against all odds, against analysts shoddy casting on land without seeing him play against attempts to purchase Rockstar and calamities. After all, upon giving the game the required years of development, has been round, has sold over 5 million copies worldwide and has had the success it deserves.

Despite having spent so much time developing an exceptional game, have much to talk about his famous bugs. I was the first to laugh at some, like the woman-ass, and I really found my games some as the disappearance of horses required to complete a mission or the character to fly free into the sky for no reason, but it is unfair to get with the game for this. On aggregate good bad beat by a landslide.

We face a great new franchise from Rockstar, a game that has been able to delay the release of Max Payne 3 end of the year, a game that gives many lessons, among them to be given to good ideas that development time require that little bit better and that much good and bad (and I note ...), that the quarterly results and presentations to investors, the short term, should not stand in the long term, quality, and thus give a 10 to Rockstar and 9 high to Red Dead Redemption. I still go down to the altar and I hope Rockstar continue so many years creating video games for adults that both amuse people like me.

Rating: Mahou 5 stars. Essential.

And now to enjoy the short with subtitles in Spanish, which is trippy:

BLUR: Pure vice

Before I ask, no, it has nothing to do with the famous British music group that triumphed with his smash hit " Song 2 ".

Blur , the game is synonymous with fun, competition, rivalry, struggle to reach the first goal at all costs a lot of laughs and laughs.

game blur

2 months ago that Activision has launched numerous codes to play the beta of Blur with 48 hours of free Xbox Live Gold. So we could enjoy the multiplayer mode (since the beta only has online multiplayer modes). The success was overwhelming, exhausting these in no time.

While still not out the game, the beta of Blur is one of the most played online, gathering thousands of gamers daily. There is nothing unusual, because once you've tried the beta and have played Blur a couple of races, the game becomes increasingly addictive and awaken the desire to improve our final result.

Why is it so addictive Blur The answer is simple, people from Bizarre Creations have done a tremendous job, have mixed Project Gotham Racing 4 with Mario Kart , and the result is Blur, a game arcade racing unlike in the which your goal is to reach the finish line first, but not just enough to accelerate and brake, but along the circuit are scattered numerous "power ups" to help you advance to the desired top.

These "power-ups" are: turbo, normal shots, shooting guided missiles, mines, car repair, shield, etc.. Furthermore, our car has a life bar that decreases over the rival attacks and strokes than we, but be careful that when we appear zero reaches far behind and lose many jobs.

Blur will go on sale on May 28 for Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3 and PC, there will be a "boom sales" since the month of May will be collapsed by Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, among others ...

If you have not had occasion to try the demo, you're already taking, and those who have tested and, what do you think?

Interviewed on The Information

Posted by in video games

As the media star that I'm back to be interviewed, this time in The Information . Markus I wanted to interview about the high cost of vidoejuegos and discovered the wonderful world of importation. Because let's face it: If you pay by the flashy new features over 50 euros a MEMO are capitalized. So clear. If your mother is wrong and gives you a game for which he paid 70 bucks ... regáñala!

Do not get ripped off, shop at play.com, zavvi.es or similar and that the Game and Gamestop shift going down with their prices. Do not be fooled, Spain played more games than ever and you'll quickly be bought, but not in Spain but in Britain. Two examples:

  1. Madness: Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 for only 33.45 euros
  2. Book and Lost Planet 2 36.99 euros and other interesting games

News and Gears of War 3 trailer

Just a few days the official announcement was made that many xbox360 gamers were expecting, the launch of Gears of War 3.

Logo Gears of War 3

Gradually getting more and more news on this highly anticipated game, how will you know the end of an epic trilogy and its launch is scheduled for April 8, 2011. Among the new features to highlight and emerging, the latest and coolest is the announcement by Cliff Bleszinski on Twitter (@ therealcliffyb ), which announced that Gears of War 3 will have the opportunity to play the campaign mode up to 4 player co-op.

Honestly it is very good news, and many expected as in Gears of War 2, but this latest edition will finally you will with it, so we're in luck gamers, gamers and others that we like to play with friends in cooperative mode .

Another novelty will be new characters in both the CGO , as in the Locust , apparently to join delta squad " Anya "and will be a playable character, as we see in the next trailer, while among the Locust, a new species of creature with tentacles, we will make the campaign more difficult. Also there are rumors about possible scenarios full of vegetation or even a sub-aquatic mission, new weapons and explosives ...

We will monitor all developments as they arise, but as you know we will leave doubts in April 2011, meanwhile it's time to create good hype from Microsoft and Epic Games , as they have this trailer called "Ashes to Ashes "and is the first thing we can enjoy.

As I stepped forward in our Twiiter , I have been interviewed as media star that I am (laugh track) on Radio Nou to talk about Heavy Rain, a game that I have discussed recently . The program is broadcast Monday from 22:50 to 23 hours and you can listen live here , but if you you lose it (which is clearly inexcusable), I leave the link to download right now so you can difrutarlo home, office ...

I think it has not been bad, very well mounted and, as usual, sent me the audio and my voice does not seem bad at all. Thanks Nuria!

Adrian Valles has a Jordan Formula 1 2003 that used to play Rfactor

Yesterday there was a digital conversation Yahoo! Eurosport with Adrian Valles, a great pilot who aspires to become the fourth Spanish race driver in Formula 1 (which today is one of the few hobbies that I think I like better than video games). You know that Alonso and Raikkonen were called the PlayStation generation prepared for careers in the new thrill of riding on your PlayStation 2 ... Well, almost all young drivers are big fans of driving games and did not hesitate to ask Vallés what was his:

Question: The speed and driving games on consoles are well made. Do you play normally? What is your favorite?

Adrian Valles: I have a simulator at home which is a Jordan Formula 1 in 2003 and the game I use is the Rfactor Mod F1 a.

Touch your c ... mariloles! A Jordan 2003! Hell, here who hesitates is lost! The Jordan were never cane , but that car Fisichella won a race, the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2003 . I remember it was a very eventful career, he won the pure bow and got nothing more that season, but continues to be a Formula 1 car real "tuned" to become video game.

Anyway, I am consumed with envy and I would love nothing more than making a small story of the toy, not hesitate to have three screens, custom made seat and steering wheel and pedals of course real ...

And then there are the official team simulators, which apparently are very realistic ... I'll get the mop that I am leaving everything lost drool :-)

Banzanálisis Heavy Rain (by the boss)

Posted by in Cinegames , PS3 , Sony , Tomb Raider , video game

After much promise, good hype galore, marketing bag and a few performances in the playroom, Sony has come to our hands a copy of Heavy Rain (I mean when I say the original copy. Not scare me!). It will be difficult to analyze this game without tearing up the story because the game is its script (in fact, is more interactive movie game as we know it), but let's try.

heavy rain scot shelby
Heavy Rain Photo: Scott Shelby

Although it comes packaged as video game sold it as such and has been developed as a video game, it's an interactive movie in which your actions influence the development of history, like a book of those choose your adventure own question. The script speaks about the murderer of origami and is the "classic" Hollywood script of a psychopathic murderer who blindly meets the profile. From four different perspectives, four playable characters, we will discover the details of the story.

Sony told us, our choices, even the most minimal, influence history. As in real life, do not know if you made the right decision or not. Just take it and life goes on and leads to consequences that might not expect or could not foresee. It appears that most affects the story is that one of your characters die at some point or is retained and can not accomplish your mission. In total, it is said on the forums, there are 18 end (epilogue) different.

Obviously, no multiplayer, and the big question is if Heavy Rain is "replay". There are many people playing it again to discover new endings, but I think that once you know who the murderer, the subject loses much grace. Perhaps at some point I try to play again to see "what would have happened if ...", but certainly not going to swallow me from the beginning because, prepare scrambled eggs airplanes or playing with the kids is not exactly fun.

The overall impression was very good. The best of the game, such as interactive movie is, is history, still good, has some gaps and turns a bit forced I would like to expand on the comments but not here so as not to ruin the game to anyone. Finally, the script is not perfect, but it does, engages and interests.

As for the gameplay, the experience is reduced to a bunch of "quicktime events" that have been so popular God of War, Tomb Raider odd or Ninja Blade. The "quicktime" confined to cutscenes usually more impressive than the game itself in which the user has to hit the button combination that is proposed on the screen. Basically it is a test of reflexes. I'm not a big fan of this type of gameplay but I think it affordable for everyone and suitable for a "game" like this.

What sets Heavy Rain from other games that use this type of gameplay? Besides the already mentioned, the no "linearity" of history, and it flows whatever you decide, the other big difference is the ultra-realistic graphics, are those who give credence to the story, but here the game is not perfect. Stresses in the facial animation (not always, sometimes, seem grotesque) and worse, some textures and especially when the characters put on the clothes ... There are some frame rate drops quite remarkable ... and there is a patch available that fixes some of these bugs ... Bajároslo before playing.

The sound also helps, follow the guidelines Cinematograph at the foot of the letter and tells us next to the "nerve" to be the on-screen action the moment where we are and how nervous he is our hero. Good tunes and good score here too.

Another objective of David Cage, writer-director of Heavy Rain, was that we became familiar with the characters, we conducted with them daily tasks, we felt what they felt and we finished we identify with them, so that their joys and sorrows not leave us indifferent. I think this has also been achieved, at least to me has happened with 3 of them ... In my end only lost one and was just in that I did not connect ... Coincidence? I think not ... Just do not moved me as Peter Molineaux ... LOL

In short, and not "brasearos" more, I recommend everyone to enjoy this experience. Despite some failures and unexplained things, the script is interesting, keeps you stress and get your goals. It's actually better than many "movies" of shit that I've swallowed lately ... I applaud Sony and Quantic Dream for funding this project and innovate. I think another essential for PS3 with God of War III, Uncharted 2 and a few others.

I think Heavy Rain is the first great exponent of a new trend in video games games, the closest to the film. I think we will see many "children" of Heavy Rain in the near future and that this game opens a new line that will target the mass market in systems that do not require as OnLive Console and the like. There is a lot of ground and big business to explore in that direction. I also believe that a good Heavy Rain in the Cinegames with a lot of people deciding where the story goes at a time can also be a good avenue to explore.

PS: If you want my opinion on the controversy of the nude free in the game, I think if you paid 70 bucks, free of anything, either pay yourself ... lol We are out to 10 bucks a naked! I remember a game for adults, and has a PEGI +18, not worth shocked by a nipple.
