Gonzo proclaims the twilight movie and the era of video games in the journal Frames

I have to put some up on film now also work on it. So this month I bought the magazine frames, which I found a pleasant surprise: An article from Gonzo Suarez, well known thanks to the first Commandos and currently developing "The Lord of Creatures" in his own studio , Arviragus, the reader receives. The first thing I thought is that Gonzo is all, no one is lost, either round table presentation or article. Secondly, that what will the film frames to open your magazine with an article by Gonzo which exalts the game above the cinema.

Gonzo says that video games are the "culture" (though not daring to mention the word) of new generations. Digital content with video games in the lead, set a new language, the son of film, but beyond him and leaves him obsolete. As Saturn remembers simile devoured his children, according to Greek mythology.

The lord of the creatures

As a business, the film is also in decline and he cites the directors now engaged in running games, including Spielberg himself, and the fact that blockbusters are delayed match to avoid large releases of video games like Halo 2 or GTA IV. Even large film production companies, including Warner, have turned their eyes toward video games as signed to weather the crisis.

Gonzo concludes the hearing of frames is not the end of the film, but "the form factor of exploitation." The "distribution efficacious pirate" do much harm, but the film will live through the "star system". The game goes far beyond the film because it's an experience "immersive, interactive, social, addictive ... and especially unpunished."

I personally think the film will never die because they do not worship their stars, but because it is a great way to tell a story, that once buried the storytelling, the oral tradition and even the literature for many people. It is time that cinema handover to a new form of expression that transcends it, video games. And remember, in a changing world, video games become obsolete in a much shorter time period than it has lasted cinema. Who knows, maybe you and I are going to get stuck on the pad while our grandchildren and not use their body to play.
On the other hand I find it funny to say that video games are something "unpunished." Do they have to go to jail for 2 people atropellas Grand Theft Auto IV? Or maybe wear a hat to give me electric shocks when I do something wrong with Saint's Row? Gentlemen, is a video game! So powerful believe it? So much we can get to identify with Niko Bellic or Carl Johnson?

More on violence in video games Manhunt 2

Back into fashion the issue of violence in video games, as a matter of ongoing debate. This time it seems that the video game Manhunt 2 has gone too far and not see the light in the British Isles to be classified as adult-only product due to its bloody scenes.

I summarize my position on the subject: I'm not far for children to have games that are not suitable for them, but I also disagree with the fact that I, grazing and thirties, can not access. Furthermore, it should be noted that the lads may make the game easily illegally ...

For me, the solution would be in the stores is required identity card or a document certifying that it has at least the recommended age listed on the game itself, as is done with alcohol. And it is still necessary for parents to better control what their children play. And of course, an end to piracy ... but that's another matter sand.

- I leave you with the controversial video game:

Things that can only happen in America ...

Leo Meristation and many other media that a boy has been arrested in Houston to design a map for Counter Strike of the institute. I personally do not understand this is not even taking into account the shock suffered by the entire country for the recent massacre of 32 people at Virginia Tech is true that the map has designed the kid is in bad taste, but then to be arrested and have to be "reeducated" ...

This is something that can only happen in America, the site that is stripped of power to a president by a slip sex with an intern and nothing is done against another emprede illegal wars. This illustrates perfectly the hypocrisy and contradictions of a society that never get to understand.

By guides ... There will be guidelines for the proper use of video games through a tube

He who does not control what plays his son, who does not know how to deal with their children's relationship with video games, has no excuse or forgiveness. There are guides all colors. All advise from all points of view and for all types of games.

Last week I went through the center Game and found the pleasant surprise of finding a small decalogue ADES also can be seen from the following link: Decalogue of ADES in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

In this catalog I would like to highlight a couple of ideas that are obvious, but we live in a world that seems to remember every day the obvious:
- Before you purchase a game yourself about your content, what kind of scenes included, which transmits values or level of difficulty.
- Do not give up his duties as adult buyer.
- Encourage sharing and common video games, which need not always be a solo activity.

Some time ago they contacted me from the City of Barcelona to help manufacture it from the point of view the game online. Finally I can not claim to have played a decisive role, but I contributed my bit and the result is spectacular. It is a comprehensive guide, essential, which was distributed on paper in Barcelona and that can be accessed at the following link: Guide to the choice and use of video games of Barcelona City Council.

In this guide highlight the section on Internet and video games, with really useful tips.

The last page will be used to extend information, but I think that with the first two guides that I leave is more than enough for anyone may address the issue of gaming. Last guide: www.guiavideojuegos.es .

Why are violent video games?

Oddly enough, there are many people out there asking this question, perhaps alarmed by various media they see in video games a serious competitor. People who ask this question would make another before answering them: Is that all games are violent? What games do you mean? What is a violent video game for you? The one who has offensive language, in which blood is in there shooting, in which faults in a curve and atropellas pedestrians? Let me go I would like comments.

Well, there are violent video games and others not, as there are extremely visceral movies and music with lyrics flammable. The contradiction is that no movie has in its packaging as clear definition of its content and age restrictions as video games, which have self-regulate with different codes known as PEGI, but this does not seem enough. The problem is not that violent video games, that is, the problem is that fall into the wrong hands. A game for over 18 years should never fall into the hands of teenagers or children whose age is below the recommended age, and this is because parents do not know or can not control the games their children enjoy.

PEGI Code, more than enough

If it is ignorance of the PEGI code, an easy fix. In http://www.pegi.info is a large database that tells you the age limits and restrictions of the game in each country and on every platform. Let's test it. Let my 12 year old son wants the video game "Daxter" PSP. It's as easy as putting "Daxter" in the search of the PEGI website and see that there is a game for PlayStation 2 and one for PSP, which recommended age is higher and has the distinction of violent content. The flags indicate the recommended age in each country, so look at yours. Look for any game and make sure your content if you can not access the covers of the games. Nothing could be simpler!

If the problem is they can not control their children's video games, because they are in working hours or whatever, I think it is more a social problem. The person left in the care of children must be absolutely reliable and committed to this and many other education issues.

The video game piracy is rampant and is a blight on the industry also in the sense that video games are no warnings including PEGI code within the same game. Perhaps it would be appropriate so, but today the only system (and the best among those in the entertainment industry by far) is the PEGI code, which is lost if pirateamos games.

A common mistake is to consider that video games are kid things. The truth is that I brush the thirties and I give this video game as they come. I assure you it is much better than the vast majority of television programs. My friends are about my age and are very "gamers". The gambling age is becoming higher, although I recognize that kids are the most play.

Restricted

If you want your son or daughter does not play much video games, it is best to agree with him, but if that fails, you also have parental control tools on both Windows Vista and Xbox 360. I think the other consoles also have it but I have not checked. We must control the hours of play, because another of the great virtues, which is both a defect if it is abused, is that in the game you are the protagonist. It is easy to identify and that can cause problems led to exaggeration.

Analyzing the February releases

Looking at the list of releases vandal.net (http://www.vandal.net/cgi-bin/lanzamientos.pl?p=&mes=2&ano=2007) February, I find many games that are violent: Ice Age 2, Xpand Rally Xtreme, New Zealand Story Revolution, Bomberman, Pool Actua Virtua Casino, PES 6 for Nintendo DS, The Sims life stories, Contact, Winter Sports, Lumines Plus, TOCA Race Driver 3, Test Drive Unlimited Arthur and the Minimoys, Mario Slam Basketball, Excite Truck, EA Replay ... Do you find few games? Only these have come out in February, a month short prolific releases, and they are all suitable for children. Of course, there are also violent, but they are for older, so the problem is not that there are violent games, but let it fall into the wrong hands.

Why the game industry is not defended?

Today I had the chance to chat a while with one of the guys from FX Interactive. Of course, not published private conversations, but I would like to briefly comment (always my personal opinion) one of the many issues that we talked about: Why the game industry does not defend himself from attacks other industries such as television? Why is not able to come together to defend their interests?

The TV is completely terrorized against the video game industry. The kids today, and I am no longer so small, we prefer to spend hours playing than watching television. Obviously, the content of poor quality and unattractive are much of the problem, but also the great interactivity, realism, the ability to generate emotions of the game, of evadirtes, if the protagonist of a great adventure ... All this and some reasons more make a game much more than many of the programs you see on television. So television is threatened and attacked violent video games or calling them addictive and solitary activity. Even been referred to as "the drug of the new century."

These attacks are perfectly understandable, because the games are running your interests and your business. But ... why the video game industry is not defended? Do not want or can not? I rather think it's the latter. Despite the association of software vendors and entertainment, ADES, which does what it can, the industry is doing little or nothing to defend against attacks, and these, by repeated, making a dent. Are they really violent video games? Some do and some do not, but both the former are clearly labeled, so anyone can know exactly what types of content of each game and if they are suitable for young people.

I truth is that I start to worry about the issue of violence in video games. Germany is a very restrictive and now with the rotating presidency of the European Union, have thought to put unfair restrictions on video games. On the other hand, in the U.S. some characters who crave fame launched furious attacks on various video games. All this happens with an industry that is doing virtually nothing to defend. Even some game makers try to take advantage of the violence of their games to sell more, a practice profitable in the short term but lethal medium to long term.

The future is black. The only solution is that we all come together and defend video games. Publishers and distributors, although they have many resources and work in poor, have to put all its forces to defend the industry from these attacks. The video game journalists as a server, we have to afanar in raising awareness of the PEGI code correctly and report on video games, because the film does not disclose the contents of the tapes or the recommended age as do video games, and music does not show a high degree of self-control.

Another day I will tell you a little how is the information landscape of gaming. Stay tuned! ;-)

The Pope also warns against video games

Posted by in violent video games

I'm starting to worry seriously mess with fashion games. Following criticism and lawyers go for games like the Crusades in the U.S., it now appears that the threat is even greater here in Europe. Angela Merkel, the new president in office of the European Union, will try for a ban on marketing to minors of games that are not eligible. The latest is that even the Pope has had a few words to violent video games.

The problem is that, as in Germany, adults do not have access to them because they are given leave to appear in certain markets (notably Microsoft's latest games for Xbox 360 and "Lost Planet" are not being released).

In my opinion, the parents, who are responsible for their children properly or care about the games they buy, they are to blame. It is true that today both parents work and many more hours than would be recommended. Let's see when we get really European and emulate them in the form of work and schedules.

This is the full text of His Holiness the Pope:

"Any trend to produce programs - including animated films and video games-that exalt violence and portray antisocial behavior or, in the name of entertainment trivialization of human sexuality is a perversion, and more when it comes to programs for children and adolescents. How could one explain this 'entertainment' to the countless innocent young people who actually suffer violence, exploitation and abuse? In this regard, we would do well to reflect on the contrast between Christ who "embraced the children and blessed them by placing his hands on them" (Mark 10.16), and one who "leads astray one of these little ones had better he put his neck a millstone "(Luke 17.2)."

Another day I will explain my view of the topic in more depth. It's not about 3 sentences. We need a more in-depth reflection.

Text of Pope .
