Why the game industry is not defended?

Today I had the chance to chat a while with one of the guys from FX Interactive. Of course, not published private conversations, but I would like to briefly comment (always my personal opinion) one of the many issues that we talked about: Why the game industry does not defend himself from attacks other industries such as television? Why is not able to come together to defend their interests?

The TV is completely terrorized against the video game industry. The kids today, and I am no longer so small, we prefer to spend hours playing than watching television. Obviously, the content of poor quality and unattractive are much of the problem, but also the great interactivity, realism, the ability to generate emotions of the game, of evadirtes, if the protagonist of a great adventure ... All this and some reasons more make a game much more than many of the programs you see on television. So television is threatened and attacked violent video games or calling them addictive and solitary activity. Even been referred to as "the drug of the new century."

These attacks are perfectly understandable, because the games are running your interests and your business. But ... why the video game industry is not defended? Do not want or can not? I rather think it's the latter. Despite the association of software vendors and entertainment, ADES, which does what it can, the industry is doing little or nothing to defend against attacks, and these, by repeated, making a dent. Are they really violent video games? Some do and some do not, but both the former are clearly labeled, so anyone can know exactly what types of content of each game and if they are suitable for young people.

I truth is that I start to worry about the issue of violence in video games. Germany is a very restrictive and now with the rotating presidency of the European Union, have thought to put unfair restrictions on video games. On the other hand, in the U.S. some characters who crave fame launched furious attacks on various video games. All this happens with an industry that is doing virtually nothing to defend. Even some game makers try to take advantage of the violence of their games to sell more, a practice profitable in the short term but lethal medium to long term.

The future is black. The only solution is that we all come together and defend video games. Publishers and distributors, although they have many resources and work in poor, have to put all its forces to defend the industry from these attacks. The video game journalists as a server, we have to afanar in raising awareness of the PEGI code correctly and report on video games, because the film does not disclose the contents of the tapes or the recommended age as do video games, and music does not show a high degree of self-control.

Another day I will tell you a little how is the information landscape of gaming. Stay tuned! ;-)

not defended it makes no sense, even to attack, perhaps a child will stop playing his playstation to watch something on TV that give? will be able to influence some parents and they forbid their children, but it will be a small part

Honestly, I think that many people who are aware of the magnitude of the situation and why I wrote the article. In Germany some of the most anticipated games do not come out for sale by its degree of violence. Would you like to turn to imports to make with it? The problem is that the code is not respected PEGI and parents do not care about what their children play. Honestly, I would not miss a Gears of War because many parents are not able to be attentive to what their children play.

Very good article. Many times I have considered the same thing: why the video game industry does nothing?

I do not agree that the distributors and others can not do anything, have many points at which to press.

For example, the reproach could jeopardize thousands of jobs that move the industry from developers, marketing, translation, to store clerks.

At issue is beyond the PEGI code. A television above all, they care little that industry self-regulate, directly seek to harm, scare the parents, when they should shut up early to check its contents.

And finally, I would almost say that even the most violent game is more educational than any TV program. That they do look.

But hey, it's clear who controls the media has the upper hand.

really do not think it necessary, companies like rockstar enjoy the sweetness of success through such advertising, the TV is violent, and U.S. television is more violent, but to save them using a classification of programs, so it works in games, and I do not see how it could eventually affect the games that, if children play video games, if the Germans can not play that is a particular problem, a tiny country for vieojuego industry, use or japan prohibit something then if they cry, but from there on out, I do not miss anything from the first Mortal Kombat was the outcry and every new mortal kombat is perfectly accepted in use, the fantastic and violent gears of wars or damage criticism and make it as safe is gta 4 million copies and will sell in your country if you have fear of violence, then buy a wii, and voila, live the freedom of this country, above Mexico.
