Why are violent video games?

Posted by at 21:01 in video games , video game violence

Oddly enough, there are many people out there asking this question, perhaps alarmed by various media they see in video games a serious competitor. People who ask this question would make another before answering them: Is that all games are violent? What games do you mean? What is a violent video game for you? The one who has offensive language, in which blood is in there shooting, in which faults in a curve and atropellas pedestrians? Let me go I would like comments.

Well, there are violent video games and others not, as there are extremely visceral movies and music with lyrics flammable. The contradiction is that no movie has in its packaging as clear definition of its content and age restrictions as video games, which have self-regulate with different codes known as PEGI, but this does not seem enough. The problem is not that violent video games, that is, the problem is that fall into the wrong hands. A game for over 18 years should never fall into the hands of teenagers or children whose age is below the recommended age, and this is because parents do not know or can not control the games their children enjoy.

PEGI Code, more than enough

If it is ignorance of the PEGI code, an easy fix. In http://www.pegi.info is a large database that tells you the age limits and restrictions of the game in each country and on every platform. Let's test it. Let my 12 year old son wants the video game "Daxter" PSP. It's as easy as putting "Daxter" in the search of the PEGI website and see that there is a game for PlayStation 2 and one for PSP, which recommended age is higher and has the distinction of violent content. The flags indicate the recommended age in each country, so look at yours. Look for any game and make sure your content if you can not access the covers of the games. Nothing could be simpler!

If the problem is they can not control their children's video games, because they are in working hours or whatever, I think it is more a social problem. The person left in the care of children must be absolutely reliable and committed to this and many other education issues.

The video game piracy is rampant and is a blight on the industry also in the sense that video games are no warnings including PEGI code within the same game. Perhaps it would be appropriate so, but today the only system (and the best among those in the entertainment industry by far) is the PEGI code, which is lost if pirateamos games.

A common mistake is to consider that video games are kid things. The truth is that I brush the thirties and I give this video game as they come. I assure you it is much better than the vast majority of television programs. My friends are about my age and are very "gamers". The gambling age is becoming higher, although I recognize that kids are the most play.

Restricted

If you want your son or daughter does not play much video games, it is best to agree with him, but if that fails, you also have parental control tools on both Windows Vista and Xbox 360. I think the other consoles also have it but I have not checked. We must control the hours of play, because another of the great virtues, which is both a defect if it is abused, is that in the game you are the protagonist. It is easy to identify and that can cause problems led to exaggeration.

Analyzing the February releases

Looking at the list of releases vandal.net (http://www.vandal.net/cgi-bin/lanzamientos.pl?p=&mes=2&ano=2007) February, I find many games that are violent: Ice Age 2, Xpand Rally Xtreme, New Zealand Story Revolution, Bomberman, Pool Actua Virtua Casino, PES 6 for Nintendo DS, The Sims life stories, Contact, Winter Sports, Lumines Plus, TOCA Race Driver 3, Test Drive Unlimited Arthur and the Minimoys, Mario Slam Basketball, Excite Truck, EA Replay ... Do you find few games? Only these have come out in February, a month short prolific releases, and they are all suitable for children. Of course, there are also violent, but they are for older, so the problem is not that there are violent games, but let it fall into the wrong hands.
